Anyone ever heard of a layout built by this company? I looked at one for sale yesterday. It was about 12' long and 6' wide approx. The interesting part was it was set up for an outboard motor and rated for 10 HP. The deck tapered down to the water line except for a motor well that was cut out on the transom.
It sounds like you are talking about a boat that I owned a long time ago (the size is correct). It looks like a layout boat that is set up for an outboard? If it is the same boat, it is not real safe. The bow will dive when you come off of a plane (don't ask how I know or how many times I learned the lesson!!!) It was as effective as a layout but I would not run it in any chop. I was just lucky that I only swamped it in the summer time. Mine weighed a ton but I think the foam was waterlogged. I was told that a company had the molds and made a few but they trashed the molds due to liability issues. I have a picture of it somewhere and it was shown in a duck hunting book.
It you google the company name you will find one listed.
I killed ducks out of it but I would not own one again for safety reasons.
Billy Scott is exactly right. be very carefull with this boat! I do not recommend any motors on it at all. With no motors it would serve the purpose as a motor and your asking for trouble, I just so happen to have been in these boats and as scott said they are quite dangerous with a motor.
One look told me that safety was an issue. When the deck slopes down to meet the waterline you are bound to get the bass plug effect. I was just interested in the history of the boat, and a google search did not yeild any information on the company.
