MD how well does that tapered bottom work. Is it just for foot room or does it help with towing? Does it cause one end to float higher than the other due to difference in displacement?

Nice looking boat. However, I now have shop envy.

Is the inside of the boat just painted or is it glassed before the skin is put on?

I'll go out on a limb here and state that the boat is brushed with tinted epoxy resin. Atleast thats the best way to do the inside. It definately helps preserve the wood.

BTW great looking boat ya got there!

Great guess, yes the inside is covered with the tinted epoxy resin. As far as how well it floats with the tapered bottom, I don't know. I am new to the sport and never built a layout boat before. We'll see when the water gets soft up here in WI. Towing is another issue. I don't think I am going to tow it. I am afraid that it might torpedo while being towed and destroy it. The bottom is built for towing, but I hope not to tow it. It is easier to get in than my layout blind. I am still pondering on how to build and install a angled backrest and or headrest. Any insight from you guys would really help. Should it be permenant? I was kind of thinking about something triangle shaped that I could just set in place when I needed it.

Md, If you look on our website we offer a molded backrest for the Erie and it would fit perfectly into this boat as well. No im not trying to sell ya one. Just go look at it and build one from wood. Think wheel chock. and you can glass it to the floor as well.

Mitch, if I could, Round off all the sharp edges. this will allow the glass to lay much easier and without air bubbles.

When your ready to glass the boat brush epoxy resin over the whole area your doing first. then lay the cloth over it and wet out again. Do NOT use 4-1 hardner. I recommend 2-1 and be patient and let it cure. DO NOT RUSH this part. Its the most important part of the whole build.

Looking great so far. keep us posted.

Tony, could I buy that backrest assembly? If not, I am wondering if a 1x1 frame covered with 1/4 inch plywood and fiberglass resin would be strong engough?

Boat #3 is about 30% complete. I think huntdivers and myself are getting the hang of it. Any comments on whether or not to install eye bolts on the bottom? Stern or bow or both ends? The ducks won't stand a chance this fall.
