I'm building a 1 man Erie layout boat and I'm a bit stuck on the directions. I'm on instruction #26. Where is the fig #1A? Is it the small drawing below #26? Could someone explain to me the dimensions in the picture below #26.I feel stupid for asking these questions but I don't want to make an error.
yes! Those figures the numbers 7/8" and 1 3/4" are giving you the measurements of drop in the angle of the box from the front and back of the angle when its completed. Those for the most part can be ignored, IT would appear they seem confusing and whem building the box most guys will modify this slightly and when this happens those numbers are useless.
Not a stupid question....I was wondering the same thing.
Would it pay to epoxy the entire inside of the boat to seal the wood or is that just overkill. I'm looking for long term solutions and low maintenance.
Also how important are the zinc plated screws? Has anyone had problems with screws rusting out or should I think about stainless screws. I'm still a month away from starting my project. I dont have the luxury of a heated garage. the weather has not been kind, 5"-7" of fresh white stuff on top of 1/2" of Ice.
I have never built a layout but I have built 5 wooden boats and I would say that it would not be overkill to epoxy the inside to seal the wood. It would last longer than if you didn't. I would also go with stainless screws. I have used both and for anything that you want to last or will see salt water go with stainless. The additional cost for stainless on a small boat like a layout is worth the piece of mind that they will not rust. I plan on building a layout this summer as well but I'm going cheap. Just wood and house paint and cheap hardware. My thoughts are if I don't or my hunting partners don't really care for layout hunting then I do not have much lost in money and if I do like it then I can build another to last. I'm always looking for an excuse to build another boat.
the plans call for epoxy to glue all the joints. would gorilla glue work or titebond III water proof glue work as good, or should I stick with the epoxy.
