While I read on the forums many guys are considering building these foam boats. These are great fun projects but be very very carefull. With foam its not very strong and even with a layer of 6 or 9oz glass over it its still not going to be very rigid. In order to make these rigid enough to support the weight over a lengthy time fram you must double these layers. I would say no less than 4 layers of 6oz glass over a 2" thick foam boat.
Remember Layout hunting in the open water is a great sport but it can also become deadly in seconds.
be Safe out there!

good Luck to all.

Excellent point Tony! I have plans for a foam boat, and I plan on building one, however, I will be making modifications to it to include your area of concern. On the boat plans I have, the cockpit of the boat terminates into a wooden transom, so when one is sitting in the rear of the boat, the nose slightly rides high, and there really isn't much flotation at the rear of the boat where the operator would sit (some on the sides of the stern, none at the transom with the exception of the foam sheets on the bottom of the boat). One could sit in the middle of the boat I guess, but on to my point....so I plan on modifying the boat to include a deeper/longer stern (about a footish extra in length beyond the cockpit), so there is more flotation at the rear of the boat. My concern would be for a gust of wind to lift the front of the boat and flip it over on the operator due to the lightness of the boat and the slight rise in the front. The plans I have are sound, I just want to make some slight modifications to ease my personal safety concerns!

Cheers!
